The National Moot and Mock Competition, Obafemi Awolowo University.

The National Moot and Mock competition, formerly known as Wole Olanipekun National Moot and Mock Competition, is an initiative of The Radiant Justice Chambers, Obafemi Awolowo University as a way of upholding its ideology of grooming law students in the procedural aspect of law which includes the entire spectrum of advocacy (moot and mock trials, client-counseling, arbitration).

This year’s edition is intended to improve upon the legacies of the past competitions as participants have been invited from institutions all over the country. Preparations are also in top gear to Advocacy would be brought to play through the preliminary moot competition while Litigation would be visualized to the audience through the mock trials.

Every participating team is required to submit a brief of argument with respect to the given memorandum. At the preliminary stage which is expected to hold on the 30th of October, 2019, we are to witness the moot competition. The moot competition which is similar to the final addresses made in court is going to see the representatives of each school argue their case based on the briefs earlier submitted.

The top two teams of the moot competition are to proceed to the finals which is the Mock Competition and is scheduled to hold on the 31st of October, 2019. The two teams are to register a team of a minimum of two and a maximum of four students who will prepare and plead the given case (current legal issue) from the perspective of the prosecution or of the defense. They are also expected to bring witnesses who shall be examined by the court to ensure that their claims are credible. The winner of the Mock Competition would be declared the winner of the National Moot and Mock Competition.

The National Moot Court Competition has attracted a prestigious roster of past judges and competitors. The current Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola was a notable judge in the past final rounds of the competition. Past winners of the competition include Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Lagos, University of Ilorin and University of Ibadan.

It is worthy of mention to note that the Radiant Justice Chambers has organized several programs in the past which includes the Client Counselling Competition, Environmental Law Clinic, Corporate Law Masterclass.
