  • Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition

The competition is a simulated hearing in the area of space law and is organised annually by the IISL. The participating regions consist of Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America and Africa (added in 2012).

This competition encourages further development on the subject matter of space law in the curriculum of academic institutions and assists participating countries in developing the technical legal capacity by preparing the next generation of space lawyers. The competition provides a platform for the students, where the analysis, drafting, presentation and arguing skills of an upcoming lawyer are put to test.

The winner of the regional round will represent the Africa region at the World Finals, to be held in conjunction with the International Astronautical Congress.

  • The 2020 Nigerian Higher Education Foundation Scholars Program


NHEF Scholars represent a select cohort of students from each of our Partner Universities. They have demonstrated strong academic excellence and well-roundedness in both professional and extracurricular pursuits. We expect our Scholars to be fully devoted to Community Service, Philanthropy as well as making a lasting impact in society. Through this program, they will become successful future employees with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities attached to their industry of choice.
The NHEF Scholars program is open to students in their Penultimate year at our Partner Universities. Eligibility varies depending on your course of study. However, if you are not certain, we would recommend that you submit an application anyway and we will advise on possible options.

  • Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition

The 12th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition is due to be held from 13 to 17 July 2020, in Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland. The Competition is hosted by the Centre for Human Rights based at the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria.

The Competition is open to both undergraduate and master’s degree students. A team of two students from each university is invited to participate. In the preliminary rounds, students submit heads of argument for a hypothetical case, which are assessed by a panel of experts.

The best 10 teams from each UN region are then invited to participate in the pre-final, quarter-final, semi-final and final rounds of the Competition in Geneva. Teams then have to argue the two sides of the hypothetical case, representing, alternatively, both the Applicant and the Respondent before a ‘bench’ of human rights experts.The eight best teams proceed to the quarterfinal rounds, which is presided over by judges from international courts and tribunals. The Competition is presented in English, French and in Spanish.
